A friend of mine asked me if Hearing Loss is a handicap. I honestly didn't have any answer for her because I don't consider myself being handicap because of my hearing impairment! I don't think I ever will even if I go deaf. I was doing research and I came across this information. Thought to share it with you all. Hope this helps.

Hearing loss or deafness is NOT a handicap. You are only handicapped or disabled by your environment. Just because I don't understand Spanish doesn't mean I am handicapped; only by my environment of Spanish speakers. If I have an interpreter, does that suddenly make me not handicapped? See what a change in the environment can do for you? :-)
